Este proyecto consiste en convertir un antiguo establo situado en un pueblo rural en el sur de Francia en una pequeña vivienda. Es un espacio alto entre medianeras que termina con un gran techo de bóveda de cañón y contiene un entrepiso introducido a posteriori. Debido a la elevada pendiente del terreno, que deja el espacio semienterrado, la fachada frontal –perforada por una puerta y una ventana superior– es la única fuente de aire y luz natural. El principal desafío del proyecto se convierte entonces en cómo maximizar la entrada de luz natural a la planta baja, el espacio diurno. Con este fin, propusimos instalar una nueva fachada transparente retrasada hacia el interior de la fachada de piedra, creando un porche de entrada de doble altura que permita que la luz que entra por la ventana del entresuelo ilumine también la planta baja. / This project involves converting an old stable in a rural village in southern France into a small apartment. The original construction is a tall space between party walls terminating with a barrel-vaulted ceiling that supports a house above and contains a mezzanine introduced later. Due to the steeply sloped terrain, which leaves the space semi-interred, the front facade –containing a doorway with a window above– is the only source of air and natural light. The main challenge of the project, then, is how to maximize daylight for the new daytime space on the ground floor. To this end, we propose a new glass facade receded one meter behind the stone facade, creating a double-height entrance porch that permits light entering the mezzanine-level window to also reach the living-dining-kitchen space below.
